My name is Nadiah Nadhirah, a student of Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN).
I have been working on a WiFi Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) tool during my internship at Vectolabs. It can detect WiFi RSSI within the range of -1dBm and -90dBm. Higher readings (closer to zero) indicate better signal strength. This tool also allows you to set up credentials of a WiFi network when used with the ESP32 WiFi BLE app from the Google Play Store by using your smartphone. The tool makes it easier to check the signal strength of one network and quickly moving on to the next one. The small form factor allows you to carry it around inside your pocket.
To check the signal strength, connect to a WiFi network and the RSSI value will be shown. The reading will refresh every 10 seconds to show the latest RSSI value.
Components required for this project are:
- TFT LCD Display
- 9V Battery
- Switch (On/Off)
During the 12 weeks of my internship at Vectolabs, I was able to learn new things such as the ArduinoIDE software and improve my technical skills since I was given an opportunity to experience myself on how to handle components such as ESP32, accelerometer and Arduino UNO among other components. Staff members are very kind, supportive and willing to share their knowledge and experience since day 1 of the internship. It was very challenging for me to work from home due to COVID-19 outbreak, but it was easier with the help of my supervisor who answered all my questions and taught me a lot remotely via video, phone or text.
